What we'll cover in Paint Abstract Art with Confidence: Textured Art Edition
MODULE ONE
- We'll go through the tools & supplies we'll be using to help you decide which items on the supplies & tools list you want to get so you're ready for what's coming up in week two
- Explore the different effects of fluid vs. heavy body acrylics with the textured abstract expressionist style of painting
- Demo on what types of textures and marks different tools make
- How to make your acrylics look like oils
- Keys to keeping your colors clear and vibrant & not muddy when working wet on wet
- Shortcuts to choosing colors that work together
MODULE TWO
- Building confidence by working small so you can finish a piece quickly. This enables you to create lots of work quicker to accelerate your progress.
- Demo of layering techniques with palette knives and other texture making tools
- Demo on how to create depth

- Going bigger: demo on how to scale up/translate the techniques you learned last week into to larger paintings

Most frequently asked questions and answers
How is this class different than your previous classes?
While there are some overlaps in core concepts, the techniques we will be using to create this style of artwork (textured abstract expressionism) is very different than anything I’ve taught in my previous classes. Also, when I taught this class live added additional Q&A sessions, plus the students taking the live version of the class had the opportunity to have their artwork critiqued in a live group critique session...which was the first time I’ve offered this as part of a class I’ve taught. You get access to all of those recordings, so that you can learn from everything that was shared during those sessions.

I live in England (insert your country here)...can I take this class?
Yes of course! You don't have to live in the United States to take this class since it's online and you can watch/download the session recordings.
Is there a supply list?
Students for my self paced classes get access to the supply list inside the course site, but if you already paint with acrylic paints and have some palette knives you probably already have most of what is needed for this workshop. Do I need the exact same paints and/or tools that you are using?
You don't have to use exactly the same things I'm using, but do keep in mind that if you are using cheap craft or student grade paints, you may not achieve similar results. I recommend you use the highest quality supplies that you can afford...my favorite brands of acrylic paint are Golden, Matisse, M. Graham, and Sennelier because of their high pigment content, but I also use other brands sometimes, like Liquitex and Nova. Cheap paints and tools will only cause you to be frustrated as they don't perform as well as good quality ones.
Who is this class for?
This workshop is for all levels, from beginners to experienced painters. My teaching style provides plenty of direction because I explain everything as I go along….which will help a new painter and at the same time time, share all kinds of secrets that a more experienced painter will find beneficial.
I'm not computer/tech savvy. Will I be able to take this class?
Basic computer/internet skills required to be able to access the class sessions and private class website, but I feel they are pretty standard and if you're able to create an account on a website, log in, know how to watch/download content from the web, then you'll have the skills needed. The platform used to deliver the content for the class ise Kajabi.
Is there a Facebook group?
No there aren't any Facebook groups for my self paced classes.
How long do I have access to the course site?
You have access to the class for as long as the class exists. At some point in the future, I may choose to retire a class, but this is a very new class and so I do not see it going anywhere any time in the near future.
Can I download the videos?
Yes, you will be able to download the videos from the workshop to your computer for offline viewing. If you plan to download anything, be sure to remember what was stated above about workshop site access. Please also keep in mind that these are for your personal use only. Please do not copy or share them with anyone.
